What's Hummingbird Mag up to these days?
As the weather cools around Hummingbird, our flutters are accelerating
It’s been about a year since I last updated this newsletter. During that time, Hummingbird continues to evolve. We raised $9,000 last November 20 for the Trans Women of Color Collective (TWOCC), and have covered a variety of artists in concert.
Speaking of TWOCC, follow our Instagram to be the first to know about the next iteration of Transcendent, a virtual concert fundraiser for the Trans Women of Color Collective.
Our lineup will be more streamlined this year and will focus more closely on trans artists of color. We can’t wait to share their work with you all! More announcements to come…
Regarding concert reviews, our photographers have been busier than Hummingbirds during pollination season.
Tim Davis and Sara Krivacsy, of Albert Einstein College of Medicine fame, covered Pinegrove at the Rockaway Hotel in Queens, NY:
“Despite focusing on often painful and alarming themes, Pinegrove’s body of work is largely comforting and hopeful. Through the strife they colorfully describe, we recognize ourselves in each other and we are reminded of the beauty of a natural world worth saving,” they wrote.
Brendan Kirk, prolific playlist-maker, covered Khruangbin and Thundercat during their visit to Austin, Texas at the Germania Insurance Amphitheater.
Evan Gaines took a hop, skip, and a jog up to Burlington, Vermont to cover the wonderfully curated Waking Windows festival for their 10th anniversary! Featuring acts like Japanese Breakfast, Dinosaur Jr, Kikagaku Moyo, and the bustling Burlington post-punk scene.
According to Waking Windows founder Paddy Reagan, “the goal is, and was to, to get our friends who we live with, and we see every day walking around, on a similar playing field as those other bands who are out there touring and have lots of experience,” explains Reagan. “And just show side by side that there is so much talent in Burlington.”
Further, our Tik Tok is getting off the ground, albeit slowly. Tune in for more concert recaps and performances from the upcoming Transcendent.
